Huawei and OPPO are the two prominent names in the smartphone category. They offer a wide variety of phones at different price category. Both these Chinese tech giants recently slashed the prices of their latest mid-tier smartphones viz, the OPPO A3s and the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019. Both these phones come at the below 25k price bracket. But which among the two is the best smartphone to buy in Nepal? Well, let us find out just that.
Both the OPPO A3s and the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 have a notch sitting snug on the top center of the display. They, however, are of different design as the Y7 Pro 2019 packs a water-drop notch while the A3s has a more traditional type of notch. Both the phones also have an equally large chin sitting below the display.
The Y7 Pro 2019 packs in a slightly larger display at 6.26 inches while the A3s has a 6.2-inch panel. They both, however, pack HD+ (720 x 1520 pixels) resolution. Talking about the dimension of the phones, the A3s measures in at 156.2 x 75.6 x 8.2 mm while the Y7 Pro comes in at 158.9 x 76.9 x 8.1 mm.
Under the hood, both the phones pack entry-level processor which is kind of a bummer. This even extends to the processor choice as both the phone packs the same Qualcomm SDM450 Snapdragon 450 along with the Adreno 506 GPU. The day-to-day performance of the phones is quite similar.
Both the phones perform great with daily tasks but struggle with the more resource heavy tasks. Gaming performance too is very similar to this observation. I was easily able to play games like Temple Run 2 and Stampede but had a hard time playing PUBG. Here again, a better processor with powerful GPU would have done wonders.
The phones, however, come loaded in the memory department. Both the phones packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. They also offer room for storage expansion via a microSD card slot up to 256GB.
Moving on, at the software end, both the phones pack a custom skin on top of Android. OPPO has its Colors OS 5.1 while Huawei boasts its EMUI 8.2. Both these skins are feature packed and are a far cry from stock Android. The similarities, however, stop there as both have a different approach to the UI. The Color OS this time is a bit cartoony and all over the place. The UI on the Huawei side is more modern but lacks any form of material design. Both these company, in my opinion, needs to work on their software. They need to bring drastic change to make the interface more light-weight and modern. Although, for now, the UI on the Y7 Pro 2019 definitely is better than the one found on the OPPO A3s.
And now let’s talk about the cameras! Both OPPO and Huawei are focusing on the audience who values a camera. OPPO has the whole selfie leader gimmick while Huawei focuses on overall camera experience. And that show in these two phones!
Both the OPPO A3s and the Y7 Pro 2019 packs a dual-camera set up. The A3s packs a combination of an f/2.2 13MP sensor and an f/2.4 2MP sensor. The Y7 Pro 2019, on the flip side, packs an f/1.8 13MP and a 2MP sensor.
The cameras on the A3s produces some decent images with acceptable color accuracy and dynamic range. It, however, failed to impress me all that much. The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019, on the other hand, was highly impressive. In the daylight scenario, the phone took some amazing pictures with great details and vibrancy. The onboard AI further helped enhance the images. Overall an impressive set of cameras!
Talking about the low-light performance, images from both the cameras suffer a bit. The A3s more so than the Y7 Pro! Both the phones also come with a selfie camera sitting snug in the notch. The A3s packs an f/2.2 8MP shooter whereas the Y7 Pro 2019 boasts a 16MP lens. Just like their respective rear counterparts, they performed well in optimal lighting condition but took a dive in low-light scenarios. That being said, I much prefer the selfies on Y7 Pro 2019 simply because of its higher MP count. And did I mention it comes with a front-facing flash? I mean, how cool is that?
And finally, powering these two bad boys is a 4000mAh cell for the Y7 and a 4230mAh for the A3s. The battery life of both phones was very much similar. I got around 5-6 hours of on-screen time with them. One feature to mention in battery side of things is the inclusion of a fast-charger. Both phones pack a fast charger with OPPO flaunting the VOOC charger at 20W. The Y7 Pro 2019, on the other hand, comes only with a 10W Fast charger.
OPPO A3s vs Huawei Y7 Pro 2019: Verdict
Both the OPPO A3s and the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 are capable devices that have a lot to offer. They pack some interesting hardware choices and feature set. The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 clearly has the better design, capable dual-camera setup, and feature-packed software. It also has a lower price of Rs 18,490 compared to that of OPPO’s offering of Rs 24,590. The OPPO A3s is no slouch either packing a more compact design, a larger battery capacity, and a 20W fast charger.
Buying either of the phones has its own sets of pros and cons. But among the two, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is clearly the winner. It is just that good!
