The Samsung Galaxy S10+ and the Huawei P30 Pro are two of the hottest phones in the market right now. They both pack the best the South-Korean and the Chinese tech giants have to offer. The phones also have a lot of similar features like a vibrant curved display, powerful performance, feature-packed software, and eye-catching design. They, however, have lots of differences, including their processors and cameras. So, to help familiarize you with the similarities and differences between these two phones we’ve compared them across a range of key areas. Let’s put these two phones to the test and find out which among the two is the best.
Design
Both the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ are gorgeous looking devices. They both follow more or less the same formula in terms of design. Following the trends of today, both the phones pack a glass-on-glass design sandwiched by a metallic frame. They both come with an edged out screen blending the display with the chassis.
The Huawei P30 Pro packs a tear-drop notch sitting on the top center of the display. The S10+, on the other hand, packs a punch hole (Infinity-O) flanked at the top right of the display. Since the S10+ packs a dual-camera set up at the front, the notch looks a bit pronounced. I am not a big fan of either the notch or the punch hole. I would much prefer the traditional 18:9 or a completely bezel-less design. But among the two if I had to choose, I would probably go with the tear-drop notch on the P30 Pro. It is less obtrusive than the dual-camera sporting punch hole on the S10+.
Talking about the color options, both the S10+ and the P30 Pro offers a slew of color options. The S10+, in Nepal, offers the Prism Black, Prism White, Prism Blue, and the Ceramic White color option. The P30 Pro, on the flip side, has the Aurora Blue, Breathing Crystal, Amber Sunrise, and Black color variant. These all are great options if you want to get a bit funky with your phone.
Overall Winner: Huawei P30 Pro
Display
Both the P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ have top-notch displays! The S10+ packs a 6.4-inch Quad-HD (1440 x 3040 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 552PPI. While the P30 Pro comes with a 6.57-inch Full HD OLED panel with a pixel density of 398PPI. Both the displays come with Gorilla Glass for protection against drops and scratches.
As mentioned earlier, both the devices have some kind of notch flanked on the top side of the display. The P30 Pro has the tear-drop notch while the S10+ has a punch-hole cutout. Although both employing the OLED display technology, the one on the S10+ is superior to that on the P30 Pro. There is just something so great about Samsung made AMOLED panels. It is more vibrant, has a larger scale of brightness, and displays more gamut of colors.
Don’t get me wrong, the panel on the P30 Pro is superb. In fact, it is the best display that Huawei has ever used on a smartphone. But, the S10+, without an ounce of doubt, takes the crown here. It is just that good!
Overall Winner: Samsung Galaxy S10+
Performance and Battery Life
Both the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ are great performing devices! The P30 Pro with its newer Hisilicon Kirin 980 processor stomped through everything that I threw at it. While the S10’s Exynos 9820 chipset tore through all my beatings. The Mali-G76 MP10 GPU from Huawei and the Mali-G76 MP12 GPU from Samsung was able to run all the heavy titles. Playing games like PUBG, Asphalt 9 was a smooth experience. I didn’t notice any visible lags or stutters on any of the device.
The P30 Pro, in the performance department, has a slight advantage with its 7nm chipset. Although, the day-to-day performance is not that far off. Samsung, however, needs to bring major innovations to their Exynos line-of chipset. While markets like the US get the latest Snapdragon SoC with the 7nm finFET, we are stuck with the slightly out-dated processors. Come on Samsung, step up the game!
Both the P30 Pro and the S10+ have the best battery life in the current flagship market space. The S10+ packs a large 4100mAh battery while the P30 Pro sports a slightly larger 4200mAh cell. Talking about real-world performance, I got around 6-7 hours of battery life from the P30 Pro. The S10+ is also no slouch, providing a decent 5-6 hours of battery backup. For a normal user, you will get around a day and a half worth of usage on the S10+. While the P30 Pro user can get about 2 days worth of battery life on a single charge.
Another area where the P30 Pro has a slight advantage over the S10+ is the charging speed. The Pro packs one of the fastest charging technology, the Huawei Supercharge. Even though the P30 Pro has a slightly larger battery, it charges faster than the S10+. Samsung really needs to update its Quick Charge 2.0 charging standards. And did I even mention that the P30 Pro packs a 40W charger out of the box?
Samsung, this time around, has brought in the Reverse Wireless charging feature which was first pioneered by Huawei. You can use this to charge your Galaxy Buds or you Galaxy Watch. The feature works very similarly on both the devices. And yes, both the S10+ and P30 Pro comes with fast wireless charging capabilities.

Camera
The Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ are the “cream of the crop” when it comes to smartphone cameras. They both take some of the best images on any mobile device.
The Huawei P30 Pro packs a quad-cameras at the rear. This set up consists of an f/1.6 40MP wide lens, an f/2.2 20MP ultra-wide lens, an f/3.4 8MP Periscope lens, and a TOF (Time of Flight) lens. The S10+, on the other hand, packs a triple camera layout made by an f/1.5-2.4 12 MP wide lens, an f/2.4 12MP telephoto lens, and an f/2.2 16MP ultra-wide lens. All these combinations aid the P30 Pro and the S10+ take amazing sets of photos.
In daylight, both the phones take come amazing photos with great details, vibrancy, and dynamic range. That being said, a slight edge has to be given to the P30 Pro for its large color gamut and low noise levels. It also has more details if you are someone who loves editing their images. The S10+, on the other hand, gets props for its better image processing. The photos from the phone are more social media ready than the P30 Pro.

Both phones have some sort of AI backing to help take better images. They also have a slew of modes to improve the picture-taking experience. Huawei, however, has some features that the S10+ can just live up to. And that is its zooming capabilities! By default, the S10+ can zoom in a measly 2x. The Huawei P30 Pro, on the flip side, can go from 5x, 10x, all the way up to a mind-blowing 50x. This is just amazing how Huawei could achieve such a feat.
Talking about the low-light, here again, the Huawei P30 Pro shines. Don’t get me wrong, the S10+ is no slouch when it comes to the low-light department. But the P30 Pro just blows the S10+ away when it comes to the night time shots. Truly amazing on Huawei’s part!
Both the S10+ and the P30 Pro have a selfie camera at the front. The S10+ packs a dual-camera set up made by an f/1.9 10MP and an f/2.2 8MP for the selfies. This combination is great for getting that social-media ready selfies. The P30 Pro also doesn’t lag behind with a large f/2.0 32MP selfie-shooter. Both theses cameras take some amazing self-portraiture in good-lighting conditions. Dim the lights down, and the S10+ shows the power of dual-camera set up with its superb image quality. I was stunned at how good the selfies were!
Overall, both the S10+ and the P30 Pro packs an amazing set of cameras. They both take class-leading images that will take your social media game to the very next level.
Overall Winner: Huawei P30 Pro
Software and UI
Both the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ runs Android with a custom skin. The S10+ runs the latest One UI based on 9.0 Pie. While the P30 Pro packs the latest EMUI 9.1 on top of Android 9.0 Pie.
Both these takes on Android are feature-packed and have a lot to offer. But a slight advantage goes to the Samsung Galaxy S10+. The new One UI design philosophy is really great! The icons look more modern with a hint of Google’s material design everywhere. I also love the fact the UI is fine-tuned for one-hand usability. The experience on the S10+ has been really smooth with no issues at all.
Don’t get me wrong, EMUI on the P30 Pro is also very smooth and user-friendly. That said, a revamped UI with material design elements would have done wonders on the P30 Pro. A software update would be nice!
Overall Winner: Samsung Galaxy S10+
Price
Both the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ are $1000+ costing phones. They both are the cream of the crop in the flagship market segment. But in Nepal, the base model of the P30 Pro is priced at Rs 1,19,900 (256GB) while the S10+’s base model comes in at a whopping Rs 1,23,500 (128GB).
Although the price difference might not seem very large you do have to keep in consideration the storage amount. For almost Rs 4000 less, the P30 Pro offers 256GB of storage. The 256GB variant of the S10+ costs a whopping Rs 1,54,500. That is nearly a Rs 35,000 price difference. For Huawei to offer the phone with 256GB storage at this price point is really amazing. Kudos to the company for that!

Extras
Besides the usual features, the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ have a lot to offer. Both the phones come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. Although they might seem very similar, the technology behind them is way different. Huawei uses an optical sensor while the S10+ packs an ultra-sonic one. Meaning, the S10+ can be unlocked without even having to light up the display/sensor.
Both the phones also come with an IP rating for dust and water resistance. They both are rated at IP68 but with a different submersion length. The S10+ can be submerged up to 1.5m for 30 minutes while the P30 Pro can be dipped in up to 2m for the same amount of time.
The S10+ has a traditional type of ear-piece hidden properly at the edge of the top chassis. Huawei, on the other hand, opted to use a rather futuristic vibrating screen ear-piece to give the phone a more bezel-less experience. The impletion of the P30 Pro looks much better with a similar level of call quality as the S10+.
On that note, the Galaxy S10+ has a better speaker than the P30 Pro. This is all thanks to the traditional ear-piece which acts a sub-woofer. That combined with an already loud bottom-firing speaker makes up for quite an audio experience. The S10+ also has an amazing set of AKG earphones out of the box. And did I even mention, the S10+ has a headphone jack?
Overall Winner: Samsung Galaxy S10+
