Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Review in Nepal

Xiaomi is one of the most loved smartphone brands in Nepal! They have always been about providing great specs for the price. Recently, after the official entry of Xiaomi in Nepal, the prices of the phones have also gotten a lot better. One prime example of this change is the recently launched Xioami Redmi Note 6 Pro. Priced at Rs 28,999, for the 4GB RAM variant, the phone looks to woo the people of Nepal. But still, is the phone worth the asking price? Is it the best phone money can buy at the price range? Well, let’s us find out!

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro arrived at our office two days ago, and I have been using it ever since. Just like any good smartphone, in recent times, the phone comes in some good packaging. Besides the usual, the Note 6 Pro packs a very thoughtful smoky black TPU case. A great inclusion to protect your device from those nasty dings and scratches!

Going back to the phone, on initial impressions, it feels and looks amazing! Xiaomi, over the years, has perfected the formula on using a full-metal body. And this perfection shows in the Redmi Note 6 Pro. It is a marvelous cut of metal that feels as good as it looks! Talking about the color options, the phone is available in two shades – Blue and Black. The Blue is bright and bold while the Black is as stealthy as ever. Although we received the Black color variant, there is just something so drawing about the Blue option. If I were buying I would definitely go with that shade!

Besides the color option, I am highly impressed with the display on Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro. The 6.26-inches Full HD (1080 x 2280 pixels) IPS display, with a 19:9 aspect ratio, is amazing. The infamous notch makes an appearance, in a wide avatar, residing at the top center of the phone. This coupled with the 2.5D glass further adds to the appeal and usability of the device. Not only the physical aspect but the display itself is very good! Though being an IPS display, it is pretty vibrant with a variable scale of brightness level. Watching some Youtube videos and firing up a quick game was a pleasant experience on this phone.

Under the hood, the Note 6 Pro packs an octa-core Qualcomm SDM636 Snapdragon 636 processor along with the Adreno 509 GPU. The SoC is backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. These combinations make up a great performing phone! The Note 6 Pro was easily able to handle everything I threw at it. Everything from scrolling through Instagram to playing graphics intense games was a smooth experience on the phone. Speaking of which, gameplay on this device was a surreal experience due to the presence of the 19:9 display. If you are a mobile gaming fanatic, you will love what the phone has to offer. So good!

Moving on, at the software end, the Note 6 Pro runs MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1.0 Oreo. MIUI has always been my favorite custom UI! And the MIUI version on the phone just proves why that is. Everything works seamlessly with no signs of lags or stutters. Even visually, the UI looks more modern than any of the custom skins available on other phones.

I also appreciate the theming capabilities the phone offers! You can personalize the phone just the way you want. All in all, MIUI is just as feature packed and good looking as its predecessors. You will have no trouble working your way around!

In the camera department, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro packs a quad-camera set up with 2 lenses being on either side of the device. At the rear, we have a combination of f/1.8 12MP and an f/2.2 5MP sensor accompanied by an LED flash. While the front boasts an f/2.0 20MP and an f/2.2 2MP sensor. Images taken from the cameras were very good with an exuberant amount of detail, sharpness, and depth.

That said, due to my limited time with the phone, I can’t comment further on the cameras. I will cover them more vigorously in our full in-depth review which by the way is coming out real soon. Stay tuned!

And finally, powering the device all up is a large 4000mAh non-user removable battery. The battery life of the phone was amazing in my two days of use. I got somewhere around 5-6 hours of on-screen time with the phone. This without a doubt will be enough to get users through a day of usage on a single charge. That said, one major gripe that I have with the phone is the USB Type-C port or a lack thereof. The Redmi Note 6 Pro still packs the outdated USB Type-B instead of a Type-C port. This is quite disheartening for a phone launched in 2018. Come on Xiaomi, step it up!

Early Verdict: Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Review in Nepal

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro looks to be a great mid-tier smartphone. It builds on what the Note 5 AI had to offer! The inclusion of the quad-camera is a nice touch on Xiaomi’s part. Besides the camera, the phone packs a kick-ass display, powerful internals, long-lasting battery life, and a feature-packed UI. These combinations are a great recipe for a good mid-tier smartphone. Overall, I adore what the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has to offer!

That said, is the phone the best mid-tier smartphone available in the market right now? Is it a true upgrade over its predecessor, the Note 5 AI? And of course, is the price well worth it? Well, it is still too soon to answer those questions. I will put the phone through its paces in the days to come and finally answer these questions for you guys in our full review. So stay tuned for that! One thing, though, I can say without hesitation is that the Note 6 Pro is one of the better phones under Rs 30,000 here in Nepal.
