A foldable smartphone by Samsung has been a part of the rumor mill for over two years now. As per the reports, the South Korean giant might launch the handset in 2019, but it won’t be the Galaxy X. Samsung may launch their first ever foldable handset with the “Galaxy F” brand name. Whatever be the case, Xiaomi and Oppo are also working on their own foldable handsets for 2019.
As per an ETNews report, Xiaomi and Oppo are also working with suppliers to get components of foldable phones, probably hinges, and foldable displays. Huawei and Samsung are reportedly working on an in-folding design smartphone. While Xiaomi’s variant will reportedly fold outwards. Therefore, the phone might offer a much more compact package that has the potential of expanding the display surface significantly.
At this point, it’s unclear what kind of launch timeframe should be expected next year, but Xiaomi has reportedly begun development of its own foldable smartphone design and is already working with suppliers. Huawei has reportedly partnered with BOE Technology Group from China for flexible OLED panels. Xiaomi and Oppo are reportedly looking for foldable display panels from Chinese suppliers like Visionox.
