Recently, Xiaomi officially unveiled the Redmi Note 6 Pro in Thailand. The new Redmi Note series is expected to be launched globally soon. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 series is a cyclical upgrade over the existing Redmi Note 5 with some minor changes. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note smartphones have been the best performers for the company and also in the overall budget category. But is this smartphone worth an upgrade over the Redmi Note 5? Let’s find that out in this article.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Overview
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro doesn’t seem like a true upgrade over the Redmi Note 5. The new Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with some key upgrades such as dual selfie camera setup, a slightly bigger 19:9 notch display, upgraded rear camera sensors, and AI-based features. However, the heart of the phone is the same Snapdragon 636 as that of the predecessor. This new device seems more like a new variant of the Redmi Note 5.
The design is one of the key upgrades in the Redmi Note 6 Pro. This is the first Redmi Note with a notch display. The phone has thinner bezels and a bigger 19:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi Note 6 also has an upgrade in the display size, from 5.99-inches to the 6.26-inches screen. However, you get the same Full HD+ resolution.
Powering the phone is the same 14nm octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. You get the Adreno 509 GPU for smooth graphics rendering, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of onboard storage. The phone also packs the same 4000mAh battery.
In the camera department, there is another upgrade. This time, you get a quad cameras set up with two sensors each on the front and back. The rear setup comprises of a primary 12MP Dual Pixel sensor and a secondary 5MP depth sensor. Up front, the Redmi Note 6 Pro features dual 20MP and 2MP setup. The smartphone also comes with AI portrait 2.0 and scene recognition across 27 categories. The front cameras are also AI-powered and work together to attain a depth of field effect on photos. The smartphone offers a bokeh mode, ‘Beautify 4.0’, and EIS for video recording.
Verdict
On paper, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has good specifications. If we compare the phone with its predecessor, there is no much difference except for upgrades in display and camera. The Redmi Note 6 Pro is better suited to the trends in smartphone technology today. If you are thinking of getting the Redmi Note 5, then it will be better to wait for this new phone. But if you already own the Redmi Note 5, then it’s not worth upgrading for just some minor upgrades.
