Leaving the infamous notch behind, every other smartphone manufactures are, now, opting to the elevating front camera setup. This is 2019 and every smartphone manufacturers are taking a small step in running away from the notch. We’ve earlier seen such setup in the phones from OPPO, Vivo, OnePlus, Samsung and even Redmi, a Xiaomi sub-brand. However, Huawei was yet to adopt this trend. And now, it seems like Huawei is back with a bang. Huawei has launched its first-ever smartphone in Nepal with a pop-up selfie camera, the Y9 Prime 2019.
Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 Overview
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 offers a 6.59-inches LTPS IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 391 PPI. The display has a Full HD+ resolution with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone maintains a screen-to-body ratio of 84.3%, all thanks to the pop-up selfie camera.
Powering the phone is a HiSiicon Kirin 710F chipset which is made on the 12nm manufacturing process. We’ve seen this chipset earlier on the Y9 predecessor and even on the Nova 3i. The chipset is powerful in itself but the graphic rendering seems to lag during the hardcore gaming. We will test this out once we get the review unit. On the storage side, the phone has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage which is enough for the daily usage.
On the optics, the Y9 Prime 2019 houses a triple camera setup on the rear. The triple setup is aligned in a way similar to that of the Nova 4. The setup has a primary 16MP (f/1.8) wide lens, an 8MP Ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP depth-sensing unit. On the front, the phone houses a 16MP selfie shooter inside the motorized pop-up setup.
Fueling up the device is a massive 4,000mAh non-user removable battery. The phone has a USB Type-C port and the phone still maintains the 3.5mm headphone jack. Well done Huawei! The phone has all the basic sensors underneath, no doubt on that. The Bluetooth 5.0 on the Y9 Prime 2019 is a good move by Huawei.
