It has been quite some time since we have been using the Huawei FreeBuds 3. And spoilers alert, we absolutely adore it. However, how well has the product aged in the duration of 4 months. Well, let us find out in this article.
Not a lot has changed from our initial impression of the Huawei FreeBuds 3. We are a huge fan of the charging case which comes built-in with a hefty 410mAh battery. It also comes with a USB Type-C port which made charging the device much easier. I could just use my phone charger to juice the device up. And did I mention that the device is capable of wireless charging? This feature has come in handy more times than I can count. I was easily able to use my phone to quickly reverse-charge it when in a pinch.
Getting to the buds themselves, there are as good as they come. One thing I would change about them is their fit. I would really love to see a tighter fit or even a piston-style redesign in the next iteration of the buds. That said, the music quality of the buds is just amazing. Playing music on the device has been an amazing experience. The 14 mm dynamic driver helps provide clear and bass-rich audio. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to some tunes on them. Adding to this is the ability to control music through gestures from the buds.
By default, the double-clicking of the right bud allows us to skip ahead be it for music or video. Interacting with the left bud, on the other hand, allows us to control the noise cancelation. The Buds also pairs with an app dubbed the Huawei AI Life. With it, I was able to customize the gestures of the bud to my liking. This helps the buds be a truly wireless set up, without having to interact too much with the phone, while listening to some music.
Personally, I am very grateful to have gestures. It is always a chore for me to fumble around with my phone just to skip the song (I do that a lot). So I have the right bud set up to skip to the next song while I have programed the left to quickly pause the music. This helped me quickly stop the music when I wanted to talk to someone.
I also appreciate the noise cancelation that the buds provide. Although not perfect, it helped me damp the sound around me to give a pleasant listening experience. You can turn the noise cancelation on from the Huawei AI Life app and fine-tune it to your preference. This inclusion really surprised me and I am glad Huawei took the time to include this.
The FreeBuds 3 also have some amazing battery life. The 30mAh battery on the buds paired with 410mAh battery on the charging case was ample for a days worth of music listening and conference calls. It worked perfectly for them. I have no complaint whatsoever.
