Xiaomi has become the leading smartphone brand in India overcoming even the likes of Samsung. This may be why Xiaomi, this year, decided to launch their most popular mid-tier smartphones- the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India first. The phone is leaps away from its predecessor, the Note 4, in many ways. The Pro more than the regular Note 5, brings tons of features and innovation in key places. It makes it worthy enough to dethrone its predecessor as the best mid-tier smartphone in the market. Not only is the feature set great but also is the price. The phone is tagged at INR Rs 13,999 for the 4GB RAM variant and INR Rs 16,999 for the 6GB RAM variant. That being said, let’s take a deeper look at the phone and see what else does it have to offer.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro packs a 5.99 inch Full HD (1080 x 2160) IPS display with an 18:9 near bezel-less design. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass (unspecified version) and is edged out by a 2.5D glass. Encasing the internals of the phone is a metallic chassis which not only looks good but feels quite premium in the hands. Under the hood, the Note 5 Pro sports an octa-core Qualcomm SDM636 Snapdragon 636 processor along with the Adreno 509. The processor is backed by 4 or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The memory of the phone can be further expanded via a micro-sd card up to 256GB. The phone also supports dual sim cards but only at the expense of the memory card slot.

In the camera department, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro packs a dual camera set up made by a f/2.2 12MP and f/2.0 5MP sensors. The phone also comes with a whopping 20MP (f/2.2) front camera for all your high-res selfies. The shooter is also backed by A.I. technology bringing in a boost in the selfie quality. And sitting just below the rear camera is a fingerprint scanner embedded into the phone’s back panel. Moving on, at the software front, the Note 5 Pro runs MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. And finally, powering this device all up is a 4000mAh non-user removable. This coupled with the fast charging capabilities will make for a prolonged battery life.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 looks to a great mid-tier smartphone that has all the features in check. Definitely a possibility that this phone will dethrone its predecessor as the new best mid-tier smartphone. That said, we will hold the title until we can actually test and review the phone. Speaking of which, we can’t wait for the phone to launch here in Nepal. As the rumor mill goes, the phone is expected to launch about a month away from now. Keep in check, it is just a rumor!
