COVID-19 has significantly affected the world along with the economy of every country. As people are staying indoors to slow the pandemic, markets have shut down and the trade of goods is down. This includes tech items like laptops and even smartphones. The smartphone market and coronavirus effects will impact the tech companies as much as individuals.
Smartphones Sales After COVID-19
According to recent Counterpoint research, major Chinese smartphone sales have reduced by 22%. As major companies like Apple Inc. and Xiaomi are shutting down stores, it is creating a country-wide stop to smartphone supply.
In the first three months, few companies like Huawei and Vivo have managed to sustain their businesses. Huawei sales grew by 6% to 28.7 million units, making it the no. 1 brand in sales. Vivo and OPPO came in 2nd and 3rd place in terms of smartphone sales.
New Smartphones After Coronavirus
Even though the sales figures are bad, COVID-19 hasn’t stopped companies from launching new products. Recently, OnePlus launched its flagship lineup of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, without the usual launch events and spectacle. Even Apple came up with the revamped iPhone SE 2020 boasting an impressive spec list and price. Although these phones are out in the market, there is no sign of them being sold through regular retailers. In Nepal, there has been no new smartphone launch in the market. Most of the smartphone sales are limited to online purchases with limited delivery options.
So, it’s common knowledge that these newly launched phones will take more than usual to arrive in the Nepali market.
Even the technology giants like Samsung are facing difficulties to maintain a profit during the current situation. They have already declared that their second-quarter earnings may fall because of the current global situation.
