OnePlus has officially launched the new OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro for 2019. Following OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro launch, the phones are going on sale starting next month. Among the two, only the Pro version will be available for purchase in the US. OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro have prices of two distinct levels with important feature differences. As usual, the flagship phones are expected to arrive later in Nepal than other countries.
OnePlus 7 Pro Features, Camera, Display
OnePlus 7 Pro is a flagship phone from OnePlus with great emphasis on cutting edge features. The upgrades this phone packs surpass the hardware capabilities of flagship phones like the Samsung S10.
OnePlus 7 Pro has a build with an elegant design and a curved bezel-less display. So, the display extends from edge to edge with no notch. The phone has no IP certification for water resistance. However, the video from OnePlus of dropping this phone on a bucket of water indicates its resistance to water.
The phone packs a 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a QHD+ resolution. The Fluid term for the display refers to the phone’s upgraded 90Hz refresh rate screen. With added support for HDR 10+ content, OnePlus 7 Pro is fully future proof with the latest and greatest of screen technology. OnePlus 7 Pro is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass, but the large display is more prone to cracking because of the diminished bezels.
OnePlus 7 Performance
As for performance, the phone packs a Snapdragon 855 processor with Adreno 640 GPU. Along with a maximum of 12GB RAM, the phone is as fast as ever. It should handle multiple apps and games running simultaneously without breaking a sweat. The phone is available with storage options ranging from 128GB to 256GB.
The specs are similar to other Android flagship phones, however, OnePlus 7 Pro also features UFS 3.0 storage tech. This amounts to faster loading times of games and apps, along with smoother user experience.
OnePlus 7 Pro Cameras
The phone packs a triple camera setup with different focal lengths. The primary sensor is a 48MP, f/1.6 aperture sensor with OIS support. The large resolution and wider aperture make it a good all-around camera. The two secondary cameras are a 16MP wide-angle camera and an 8MP zoom camera. The telephoto camera is capable of zooming in up to 3x optically with additional options for digital zoom. The added OIS for the telephoto camera is a bonus that enables capturing still videos and images with longer shutter speeds.
Moreover, the new 16MP selfie camera is a distinguishing feature of OnePlus 7 Pro. The camera uses a pop-up mechanism to hide and reveal itself when required. This eliminates the notch and makes the phone completely bezel-less.
The phone is not just an iterative phone that builds upon older models. It has significant upgrades in storage and display, that it sets itself apart from the rest. The phone packs a 4000mAh battery with 30W fast charging option, called ‘Warp Charge’.
OnePlus 7 – An Underdog
OnePlus 7 shares many similarities with its big brother 7 Pro. It packs the essentials of what makes 7 Pro great while chipping away the flashy and latest upgrades to keep the price low.
OnePlus 7 uses the same processor and RAM configurations. The phone lacks the 90Hz display of 7 Pro and also has a lower resolution. The display of OnePlus 7 is a smaller 6.41-inch 1080p Optic AMOLED panel with Gorilla Glass protection.
Design-wise, the phone lacks the pop-up selfie mechanism and instead has the same old notch.
The primary camera for OnePlus 7 is the same 48MP sensor with a 5MP depth sensor. This means the phone cannot use the optical zoom or take any wide-angle shots. So, if you think you need the extra options and focal lengths, maybe set your eyes on the pricier 7 Pro.
OnePlus 7 is the successor to OnePlus’s flagship killer lineup of phones that provide a balance of specs and price. The phone has a 3,700 mAh battery with a 20W fast charging option only. The phone also doesn’t have an IP certification like the expensive 7 Pro though.
OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro Prices
The OnePlus 7 Pro will cost $669 in the US. The cheaper OnePlus 7 isn’t announced for sale in the US, however, the phone prices for Europe are as follows:
6GB RAM + 128GB Storage – £499
8GB RAM + 256GB Storage – £549
OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro launch has introduced us to two phones with acceptable prices and balance of features. The phones are lucrative options as an upgrade to the latest generation of smartphones.
