Huawei has launched its latest update to the popular Huawei Nova series phones. The Nova 5 series include a budget Nova 5i along with Nova 5 and the Nova 5 Pro. These phones pack the best from Huawei with improved designed and Huawei’s popular camera hardware. Huawei Nova 5 phones launched with a minimum price of around $291 and increasing up to $494.
Huawei Nova 5i
Nova 5i has a different hole punch display that has a 24MP selfie shooter. At the back, the phone has a quad-camera setup that packs a 24MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 2MP macro imaging camera and lastly a 2MP depth sensor. The four cameras are useful in different scenarios, and thus provide versatility while taking photos with the phone.
The display on Nova 5i is a 6.4-inch FULL HD+ IPS LCD screen. It has a Kirin 710 processor and offers up to 8GB of RAM. This killer combo is unheard of at this price range. Hence, despite the budget nature of this phone, is a decently specced out smartphone. The accompanying 4000 mAh battery offers long battery life but has no fast charging.
Huwaei Nova 5 and 5 Pro
Both phones have a 6.39-inch FULL HD+ OLED screen with better brightness and contrast. Nova 5 and 5 Pro has a tear-drop design with thinner bezels than Nova 5i. You can see no fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone since the fingerprint scanner now comes under the display.
Most of the features on Nova 5 and 5 Pro are the same except the onboard processor. Huawei Nova 5 comes with a Kirin 810 processor whereas the more expensive Nova 5 Pro has a flagship Kirin 980 processor found in Huawei P30 Pro.
Packing a flagship processor in a mid-range phone might be Huawei’s attempt at replicating the success of Pocophone F1. However, this only provides more options for customers to choose from. Hence, the final result is a win-win for us consumers.
In case of cameras, the Nova 5 and 5 Pro also have four cameras at the back. The main camera is a 48MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. Other 3 cameras include a 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. On paper, Nova 5 and 5 Pro cameras have higher resolution, but there should be differences in color rendition and clarity when compared to Nova 5i cameras. At the front, the phone has a 32MP selfie shooter with HDR+ support for evenly exposed self-portraits.
The phones have a 3500 mAh battery with fast charging support up to 40W. So, the phone can charge in no time even if the battery drains fast.
