After a lot of teasing, the Huawei Nova 4 is finally here! It is the first smartphone to land in Nepal with a new kind of notch. The phone comes with a Pinhole cutout display for the 25MP front shooter. The 4.5mm hole on the Nova 4 is slightly smaller than the one on the Galaxy A8s which has the 6.5mm hole. Looking beyond the divisive notch, the design feature is all about maximizing screen-to-body ratio. Display holes are the next attempt at a fully bezel-less smartphone. Functionally, they’re like a corner notch, but they don’t look like one which adds to their appeal.
Huawei Nova 4 Overview
The Huawei’s new “Nova 4” offers a 6.41-inches Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a 2310×1080 resolution. The display has 91.8% screen-to-body ratio. The only thing getting in the way of a true all-screen setup is the hole for the 25MP front shooter at the top left. The earpiece is housed along with other sensors above the display.
Cameras on the Nova 3 were awesome, and they’re well maintained on the Nova 4 as well. The Nova 4 also houses a 20MP triple rear camera. Huawei has really been pushing camera performance as of late, and the Nova 4 is no different. The triple rear camera setup includes a 20MP (f/1.8) sensor with 78 degrees Field of View (FOV), 16MP (f/2.2) sensor with 117 degrees FOV and a 2MP (f/2.4) sensor with 78 degrees FOV for depth sensing. At the front, the phone sports a 25MP (f/2.0) sensor inside a display hole. It’s probably the best way to have a bezel-less display on a smartphone, unlike the sliding camera mechanism. Both front, as well as rear cameras, support Electronic Image Stabilization.

There’s also a year old HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC powering the device. It is the same processor from the last year’s Nova 3. An older, less powerful chipset for sure, but still competent enough for most tasks. For smooth multitasking, the phone has 8GB of RAM. The phone also retains the same 128GB of onboard storage. Now, you can also set up your favorite video as a default ringtone for your contacts.
Fueling the device is a 3,750mAh huge non-user removable battery. The smartphone also supports an 18W fast charging through the Type-C port. The Nova 4 comes with Android 9.0 (Pie) out of the box with Huawei’s own EMUI 9.0 on top. The phone also comes with the GPU Turbo technology to streamline gaming sessions. The Nova 4, now, also supports the Smart Voice Assistant and Video Ringtones.
