After a month of uncertainty surrounding the future of Huawei in the US, the ban incurred by the US has finally lifted. President Trump finally announced that the U.S. companies are now allowed to work with Huawei again. Hence, the news is a sigh of relief for many Huawei users around the world.
Huwaei still on the Entity List
The U.S. still hasn’t removed Huawei from the ‘Entity List’ in the U.S. Department of Commerce, so the lifted ban isn’t official yet. The ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China have led to many talks between the two sides. Moreover, the recent announcement from President Trump is a sign of talk progress between the two parties.
Business with the U.S. Companies now possible
A major hurdle for Huawei during the ban was the restrictions imposed by the U.S. to do business with companies inside the U.S. This meant that not only Huawei couldn’t sell in America, the band also prohibited Huawei from using different technologies it relied on to make products like smartphones. Among many problems this created, a major one was the restrictions on using Android OS services that are provided by Google. This put Huawei in a significant disadvantage in the Android smartphone market.
However, the recent announcements imply that Huawei can now use these prohibited services again.
“I said that’s O.K., that we will keep selling that product, these are American companies that make these products. That’s very complex, by the way. I’ve agreed to allow them to continue to sell that product so that American companies will continue.”
U.S. President Donald Trump
Are Huawei Smartphones safe now?
The recent ban has seriously dented the reputation surrounding Huawei smartphones. If the ban lasted, it could have affected Huawei’s capability to offer different smartphone choices, and thus ultimately limiting customer choices. Fortunately, Huawei smartphones seem to be safe for purchase once again after this removal of the ban. The lifting of the ban would take time to come in effect. But the announcement from officials has confirmed that, since Huawei ban is lifted, it can do business with the U.S., thereby solving the problem.
